Three or more unneeded modular noise sessions

Post by DollarBill »

One of three, but I've started on #4 which might get dumped here if I finish it tomorrow.

This one is 100% white noise into a filter bank, with a little effects down the line and lots of knob twiddling.

(er, I might have already posted this one - it's late and my brain is mush)

This one has the house plant controlling the notes and tempo of everything except two lone random voltages from a Wogglebug. Everything else (which you could see if the camera angle was less stupid) is being modulated by the two electrodes hooked to the plant.

This one could have been acid-ish had I used a quicker clock division on the Liquid Foam, which is the thing doing the TB-303-ish bass.

Video 1: Pretty basic sequencing with some nice filter manipulation.

Video 2: Nice tension in this track.

Video 3: This is nice, liking the dirty "rubbex" synth and that weird another synth too.

Thanks for sitting through all of them. #1 was nearly just a product demo, certainly not a tune, heh. #2 is my fav, but the third could have been something if I did more with it.

I think my goal for next year will be less of these "all at once" jams just to see what I can get out of the hardware all in one go, but instead more assembled tracks and actual music with it now that it's nearly grown up into a real synth.

Good idea! Hope you have fun by making proper music with your gear Bill! I'm all about software myself and can't be arsed to go hardware. Even though Reason is a virtual hardware by it's architecture. :)

The software is easier for accuracy and control, the hardware of this type I like just because it's fun. Been at least a year since I turned on other synth hardware, it just doesn't have the mystery of random wires.

Here's number 4, last one for the year, 10 minutes of slow random meanderings and snow.

You play with these like I play with my guitars.
I am with you though, I like 2 the best but 3 is good too with the driving beat.
I like the open feel of 4. The bass track is killer.

All these would be great as a backing for a Doom game or some searching sequence in a movie.

Do you consciously set set the reverb parameters, like wet, dry, decay, room size and so forth?

Thanks Marty. In the DAW I have MUCH more control over reverb sizes and reality and whatnots than with my limited effects hardware modules (my best eurorack reverb is mono), but what it does allow is parameter changes over time in a more organic way than I can do in the daw by drawing envelopes. Plug one bit of audio into something that makes an envelope from its amplitude, send that to a control on a reverb or delay for a different voice so it reacts to the first - or to the rhythm of the song even if the rhythm is semi-random. That's part of the fun for me, making semi-controlled music where you might set the overall range of things but the cross-interactions in the system allow for rare surprises that never repeat.
