The video's a bunch of not-quite-random shots from the area where I grew up. Ended up filming summat ridiculous like 80 mins of stuff, knowing fine well that the song is under 5 mins long and there was no way I'd be able to squeeze everything in. The song itself is one of my mellower things with actual singing in it. It's off the same EP as that "Territoriality" song I also did a vid for a while back (the "behind / inside the song" thingy) Anyway, you might like the song even if you don't rate the video...Enjoy and ting.
However, there is a sort of narrative arc to the EP, beginning with moving away from the council estate (track 1), briefly zipping back to examine some of my experiences of growing up on one (tracks 2-5), before musing a bit on the passage of time and the resulting shifts in perspective (tracks 6 & 7). I was keen to avoid romanticising or idealising any of it, which again, is why the first verse of this song is focused on some of the kind of "ugly" aspects of the physical environment - the burnt-out stolen cars and remains of a dead industry and all that. It may still kind of slump down on the sentimental side of the line I suppose, but I was actually trying to avoid that - or at least, only give it as much rein as it actually deserves.
