I suppose it is just me but I love a good B&W photograph. The entire focus of this trip was to use a 4x5 inch bellows camera and black and white film. Working with filters and exposures to enhance specific colors on B&W. It is a true photographic task. I am not that good at it. What i am (or I guess was good at) is the manipulation of digital color to do the same thing I would do with B&W film. Most of these imagers were taken with the digital camera. But, much as I might try some color photo just will not come to life...until it is converted to monochromatic tones highlighting specific color bands. It can save a wasted shot.....sometimes. But having a monochromatic shift to natural color was intended to satisfy those who like B&W photography. At first I thought it was slick but now I am geting bored with it. It also was an effort to please more people. Now I find trying to please all is less important and takes away from those photos that were intended to be B%W. You are ritht though. I did use some as filler. I suppose I could have picked a shorter song.

Here is the "Road to Enchantment", the one with the wind trubines. This was the first day of photography on the trip but not really dedicated to the camera. It was more a task to dive from Oklahoma City to Farmington, New Mexico (The land of Enchantment). The previous day was spent driving form Albany Georgia to Oklahoma City, 650 miles and 16 hours. No photographs. I had seen all that many times before....but the question is, are there any photos of the route I know so well? No. So to the casual viewer South Georgia, North Alabama, Mississippi, Memphis, and Arkansas remain unknown.

This one still needs work with the mix and some lead editing. I am not real happy with the photography but it is passable.

This one was also played with the 614ce and the Strat or was it the Tele. I forget.

I also visited Boulder (Hoover) Dam on this trip though it was only for an hour. I've been there a couple times before. I also had my gear in those tupperware containers...with a tonnaue cover. Security jerked me right out of line and opened every single container including the coolers. I am surprised they did not make me unload all the camera gear from the back seat...or open the guitar case but then it was covered with camera gear. They were really interested in the developing chemicals.

There is no approach from the south (east?) side anymore; only parking lots. You have to drive over the dam to get there. ....and I hate that bridge. I hate any bridge. I also hate elevators so I did not go on the tour for either dam. Been there. Done that. I'm good.

I did my normal thing at both dams. Got there. Looked around, Took a few photos. Got bored and left. The structures around Boulder Dam are harder to photograph. It is not so accessible as Glen Canyon. It would require more planning than I was willing to commit to. I bet I didn't spend more than an hour outside the truck. By that time I wanted to be on I-40 heading home. I had been on the road for two weeks.

I also did the wind turbin thing a few days before. These were around Amarillo Texas. I spent more time on them than Boulder Dam. But there were so many scattered across the landscape with each grouping patterned differently depending upon the angle of view. I would also say the weather was not cooperating much but the clouds added to the high lighting of the turbines.

I like those industrial sized power structures in the desert as a subject of photographs. It's like the wind turbines sometimes. There is a certain style to them, isolated in the landscape that looks like the set of a science fiction film.

I was never at Glen Canyon, but when my son and I fist went out west in the late 1990s, we went to the Hoover Dam and took the tour. It was a pretty relaxed thing pre 9/11. Then in 2005 when I drove my personal pick up truck through the area, before they built the new bridge, the road still crossed the dam, and I was traveling at night. I had about 4 of those large plastic containers with lids, to carry my camping gear, food and clothes in the bed. Security stopped me and searched me before they would let me drive over the dam.

This is day five of my trip from 2015. This day I was going from Oljato, Utah to Bryce Canyon, Utah. Not a long drive. Boring in some respects. But there were some interesting things to do and see. The morning was spent driving to Page, Arizona where Glen Canyon Dam impedes the Colorado River forming Lake Powell. Getting to Page was interesting as I was looking for a back way into Antelope Canyon. This is the location of one of one of the most expensive photographs ever sold, 6.5 million UDS. I am still not sure that the sale was not a publicity stunt to bolster the photographers sales. Anyway, The place is marked with smooth wave like wind blown sandstone. You have seen photographs of this as there used to be a couple Microsoft screen savers of the sandstone. That is this area. I was hoping to find a back way in to avoid the crowds. No such luck. I just saw a lot of dirt road and only took a photo of two crows perched on a fence.

There were two videos from this day. The first was form lower Antelope Canyon at the Lake Powell marina. It is a photo expose on geology of the region. This video was the second for the day and focuses on Glen Canyon Dam. I was feeling a bit artsy fartsy and toyed with the shadows and obvious conflicting energy themes. I hung around too long forcing me to make a final run up the hill to Bryce Canyon some 8,000 ft in elevation. I wish I had more time to lazily wander up that route. I drove right by Zion Nat'l Park and didn't even stop. I did make a nice golden hour at Red Canyon. Too few photos though. I was ready to get to Bryce.

Anyway the song is from 2013 Lights Out played on the trusty Taylor 614ce. I remixed the song using the TDR vsts I bought late last year.
