I bought a synth online.
Last year I only bought one ... a Korg volca modular. Oh , and an Alesis compressor effect second hand.
This new one is a Berhinger Crave semi modular synth. It’s based around a clone of a Prophet 5 OSC .... but apparently it’s a rip off of the Moog Mother 32
Anyway they sound great.
Fun times!

I think I’ve done well this last year!
The Crave has been on my radar since it came out... this one was on sale. Internet/shipment/credit cards are cleared.a perfect storm.
There’s two other things I want to grab by the end of this year. A rack /psu for modules and a big synth module. Having the PSU will allow me to have all my modular bits in one place ...
the synth is a behringer Neutron.

I've been weighing up a couple of synths myself. Sort of torn between an Arturia Microbrute and a Korg NTS-1. Two totally different beasts. I'm sort of leaning towards the Korg more, though I'd probably have to buy a new MIDI controller as well as the couple I've got only send MIDI over the USB cable which doubles as the power supply, so I don't know if I could still use them to control another bit of hardware via the computer...?

I have two microbrutes. They have a raw aggressive tone, but without any patch memories their value is overshadowed by something like a Bass Station 2 or Circuit Mono Station. The mBrute is a good gateway to work with a larger modular setup. It hasn’t aged well... the micro freak supersedes it in every regard.
The NTS looks fun ... certainly bang for the buck. I’d expect it sounds lofi (which of course isn’t a bad thing) idk how I feel about relying on a community to develop new algorithms for it in the long term. And I personally don’t have the focus to develop for it. What happens when support dries up? Well at least it doesn’t cost too much!
What about the Korg minilogue XD? It (essentially) has a nts built in and a better synth than the brute, and midi over USB (so you should be able to use your old controller .... controller> computer> XD.... if you have enough USB ports) in one package. Though they will cost more, might be worth it.

I did look at the Minilogue but shied away from the price. I've been kind of stupid in my acquisition of hardware. For years I didn't use or want any, and as I've gradually come around to using some stuff my inclination was just to go with bare minimum requirements rather than plan ahead and assume I'd want to continue adding to the set-up. Hence why I went for cheaper MIDI controllers that don't have dedicated MIDI IN/OUT sockets. I never planned on getting any hardware synths, let alone one that would require a separate MIDI controller. Obviously something like the Minilogue wouldn't require a new controller (unless I went for the module version) and maybe a more powerful synth to begin with might actually work out cheaper in the long-run as I could grow into it. Plus.... space is a factor and I don't really want to get into the cycle of continually buying new instruments. I'd rather do as I've done with the guitars and limit myself to 1 electric, 1 acoustic and 1 bass.

Am I understanding this right? I should be able to control the Korg NTS with one of my existing controllers via the computer rather than by directly connecting the two? I have an M-Audio Oxygen 25: that sends MIDI over the single USB connection that powers it. I also have a Komplete Audio 6 interface that has a MIDI Out socket that could connect to the MIDI IN on the NTS. That should work, yeah? Cos otherwise I'm looking at having to get summat like a 37key Novation Launchkey mk3. I've seen that for about £130, but if I don't strictly need a controller that can connect directly to the NTS I could do without it really.

Oxygen > DAW> Komplete 6 interface > nts
Should work. I’m not familiar with Renoise ( I assume that’s what you’re using?)
Even with the module XD you’d be able to control it over USB from the DAW.

If you get a minilogue I doubt you will for one second regret the purchase. I have the non XD version, it's just brilliant to play around with.
I like my SE-02 a lot as well. Not poly though, but great fun.

Having said that, since I started picking up hardware I've pretty much stopped trying to make music altogether and just dick around with a pair of headphones plugged into a synth most of the time, trying to recreate what I just did that made it sound awesome for a moment about 2 minutes ago, 3 minutes ago, 4 minutes ago, what was I trying to do again?
Never even connected all the crap together yet.
Is it a warning? I don't know any more.

Couldn't find the right stems. Is that the right term?

I love the distortion/filter on my monologue. It’s ‘that’ tone.... perfect. The ML doesn’t do everything, but I live everything that it does.
The mini XD these days I feel is the best Allrounder/ bang for the buck.
I guy I jam with has an se02. It sounds absolutely massive. Blade runner/vangelis massive.

I've ordered the NTS-1 and we'll see what that's like. If I feel the need for summat more, I'll likely take another good look at the Minilogue. I'm still intending to get a new PC very soon, so I may need to save up for a bit anyway.
